The reason why I care so much about symmetry of motion in strength in ALL joints is not only because you feel better, but studies show you actually live longer. The ability to sit to stand in a cross legged position from the floor - without using your hands (or other support) - is important for your overall well being. Especially as we age, because the chances of falls increase drastically. In fact, according to the CDC, 1 out of 4 older people (65 and up) fall each year. Out of those that fall 1 out of 5 falls cause a serious injury (broken bone or head injury). The more independent we are with are movements, the longer we live without serious health conditions. I think it’s safe to say that most of us want to live long, as long as that means we don’t have to be dependent on someone else. The more autonomous we can be, the happier, healthier, and longer we will live! The research (2012) (key points)
What you can do now? If you are unable to perform this sit to rise test without using any support, I created a beginners movement program that addresses this. In the Pain Free Movement Series that launches this wednesday, we assess every major joint in the body for symmetry of range of motion and strength. Upon assessing each joint, we will discover the discrepancies in those areas and work to improve them with simple functional movements that incorporate strength, flexibility, and even some self massage techniques. This has been my career long project. After working with patients for over 10 years, I have always wanted to have this program for my patients. In fact, many of you have been hearing me talk about this for many years. What Does the Program Entail? The program is 8 weeks long and includes addresses 1 -2 body parts each week. Every day you will go through 5-10minutes of simple body movements. At the end of the program you will have better posture, movement, strength, flexibility, and LESS PAIN. You will also have created your very own daily self care program for you to continue after the program is done. If you are interested, get on our email list and we will notify you when the program launches. In health, Dr. T

I wanted to update everyone on the latest developments on the novel 2019 Coronavirus. There has been a big shift in sentiment as the FDA has just come out today saying that the Coronavirus, both globally and in the US, is no longer containable and we now have to switch to mitigation of the virus. To date there have been over 107,000 cases and over 3,600 deaths worldwide, and 556 cases confirmed in the US, and now 21 deaths from the virus.
Globally, the risk of dying from the virus is 3.34% versus 0.1% for Influenza A and B. The risk is highest in the elderly and those with chronic health care issues. The number of cases in the US are probably much higher than current numbers show, as the test kits have not been widely available. More than likely, cases in the US will exponentially increase over the short term as more testing is done. Experts are now saying to prepare for two months of difficulty here in the US, and that the next two weeks will change the complexion of our country. Be prepared for possible; city and state lockdowns, the closure of large gatherings, daycare, preschool and school closures, and requests from employers that employees work from home whenever possible. Human Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that commonly cause mild to moderate illness like the common cold. Almost everyone gets infected with one of these viruses at some point in their lives, and most of the time the illness lasts for a short amount of time. It probably spreads like the chickenpox virus; via respiratory droplets through breathing, coughing, and sneezing. Public health officials are actively investigating this virus to learn more about its impact. People with confirmed cases of the Novel Coronavirus have reported illnesses ranging from mild to severe. Thankfully, children usually have mild illnesses, but it can be more severe, and especially in older adults and those with chronic health conditions. Symptoms are similar to the flu and can include:
It is our responsibility to protect the vulnerable; the sick and the elderly, especially those with underlying health care problems. These groups of people should avoid large crowds, avoid taking any kind of long trip, and absolutely NO cruise ships. If anyone is sick, wear a mask in public, and self-quarantine to protect others. Vital Information for Our Office That You Need to Know 1. Most health care facilities, including Well Balanced Body are not accepting patients into clinics with ANY type of sickness until they are completely healthy. If you are sick, please call or text to let us know and we can reschedule your appointment for you. While Chiropractic is amazing at boosting the immune system, we are encouraging patients to prevent the spread of the sickness by staying home until further notice. 2. A NOTE ON HAND SANITIZERS We have had several patients ask us about options for Hand Sanitizer, which are sold out in most places. First, remember that WASHING HANDS IN WARM SOAPY WATER FOR 20 SECONDS is much more effective than hand sanitizer. Also, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE WITH YOUR HANDS While there are many recipes online for hand sanitizer, please note that to kill the Coronavirus strain, a hand sanitizer must be 60% or higher alcohol content. 3. Immune System Support Stock up There are NO specific conventional medications to treat the coronavirus (Tamiflu and other antivirals are not effective). It’s important to stock up on vitamins and herbs that are specific for boosting the immune system. There are certain vitamins that are responsible for making white blood cells which help fight infection. One of those is Vitamin C, not just the synthetic version (ascorbic acid), but the whole food complex version. The other main vitamin in the innate immune system is calcium. Both of these vitamins you can find when you take whole food vitamins -- like congaplex from Standard Process. The synergistic herb to these vitamins is the infamous echinacea from mediherb. Echinacea has been proven in studies to increase white blood cell production. Start taking these NOW for prevention. Other nutrient support needed to target specific viral or bacterial related sickness are outlined in my short blog I posted. We are ordering these vitamins and herbs this week and will have extra in stock. Please let us know if you are in need and we will set them aside for you. We can also drop ship to anyone who can’t make it into the office. 4. Eat Healthy Yes, it really matters. As mentioned in #3, there are certain nutrients that will help boost the immune system. Those nutrients are found most naturally occuring in whole food and the most dense nutrients are found in organic vegetables. Stock up on these nutrient dense foods and eat 70% veggies at every meal. Here are a few examples that contain vitamin c and other immune boosting nutrients
These foods cause lymphatic stagnation and inflammation in the body. It is best to avoid them to ensure a healthy immune system. Especially since 80% of your immune system is in your GUT!
As a general rule, drink ½ your body weight in ounces of water. Add lemon to your water for an added vitamin boost. 7. Get Plenty of Sleep 8. Don’t Stress Out Your body has an amazing ability to heal and regenerate. Know that you are taken care of. Many of you know someone who is sick right now. Even worse, there is a new virus on the loose - the coronavirus from China - has now been confirmed in the U.S.
I want to help keep out community safe, by letting you know preventative measures you should be aware of. Start with the basics: 1. Eat a whole foods diet 2. Get plenty of rest 3. Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water 4. Move your body at least 20 minutes per day 5. Get Adjusted, it helps boost the immune system To ensure your immune system is loaded with the nutrients it needs to fight off viruses you come in contact with, below is our list of supplements we recommend. You can pick them up in our office on your next visit. We’re leaving 2019 behind and welcoming 2020, and while we hope you’ve been experiencing your best health yet, you may still be struggling with a few lingering issues that you probably don’t want to invite into the new decade. Unexplained, chronic fatigue, frequent headaches or migraines, difficulty losing weight, are just a few of the MANY REASONS why it’s a good idea to do an annual system detox. Each year Well Balanced Body offers a supervised purification program to both clear and support the systems with proper nutrition, so you can start the New Year feeling your best. Why Detox? Our bodies are constantly exposed to external or environmental toxins as well as internal toxins that are due to challenges like poor digestion, certain enzyme deficiencies, and more. Our bodies are designed to eliminate toxins with the help of the liver, kidney, bile, colon, lungs and lymph system, but if you’re not supporting your body with proper nutrition, your body’s own detoxification systems can no longer properly eliminate toxins. The toxins in turn accumulate in the tissues causing a whole host of annoying symptoms, like poor ability to shed excess weight, brain fog, acne, muscle tension, joint pain, and decreased organ function (like infertility) to name a few. Even worse, toxins cling to fat cells, connective tissue, and organs like our brain, which can lead to a toxic body and brain. Yikes! But Won’t a Detox Make Me Feel Like Crap? Most purification programs focus solely on eliminating the bad stuff. You’ll lose a few pounds, sure. But then the headache and sluggishness start. If your purification program doesn’t incorporate proper nutrition, the toxins that release from your tissues can’t be properly eliminated from your system. You’ll either end up putting back on every single pound you’ve lost, or you’ll keep the weight off but continue to feel like toxic garbage. Our Program is Different Well Balanced Body’s supervised purification program is a simple, whole food detox that supports your body’s entire detoxification system. Toxins will release from your tissues and be properly eliminated through your body’s own detoxification system with the support of proper nutrition. No headache. No digestion issues. No feeling like garbage. To see what’s included in this program, click here. (hint: no supplements, just shakes and REAL FOOD) Is a detox right for me? ‘Detox’ can be a buzzword this time of year, but just because it’s on-trend doesn’t mean you should do it, especially if you’re not planning to do it correctly (i.e., without the support of proper nutrition). So, let me ask you a few questions:
If you answered yes to any of these, there is a problem in your detox pathway. And if there is a problem in your detox pathway it can be linked to some type of deficiency in your nutrition, whether it be protein, vitamin B or C complex, or the antioxidant molybdenum (you can read more on this in the blog post I did about a prior year’s detox). Bottom line: Your diet is not supporting your detox pathways and your body is depleted of nutrients. Alright Already, I’m in! Our 28 day supervised purification program begins soon. If you want to start off 2020 feeling like your best self, call or text 916-936-5528, and get 10% off your detox order! Place your order today, so you'll have everything you need to start with us on the 10th. Happy New Year! Get a jump start on your 2020 health & wellness goals with Dr. Tinsley at Well Balanced Body.

According to the American Chiropractic Association, back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work, and the second most common reason for visiting a doctor (only behind upper respiratory infections). Why is back pain so common? There is more than one answer to that question. A large number of back pain patients suffer because of the following three reasons: They Have Suffered a Back Injury Individuals can hurt their backs by lifting heavy objects, overexerting themselves, or moving the wrong way. The muscles and ligaments in the back can be twisted and damaged. Back pain that is the result of a recent injury is called acute pain, meaning it comes on suddenly. Acute pain is usually temporary, so when the injury heals, the pain lessens or disappears completely. Over the counter medications such as analgesics, topical creams, and anti-inflammatory drugs help manage back pain caused from an injury but don’t necessary fix the problem. Chiropractic care is another way to lessen acute pain and feel more comfortable. By adjusting the spine, chiropractors can relax the muscles, and relieve acute pain faster than simply "suffering through" the injury. They Battle a Medical Condition or Illness Unfortunately, there are several illnesses that can cause back pain. Fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, inflammatory diseases of the joints, and scoliosis are some of the common conditions that cause back pain. Because the conditions create pain that lasts longer periods of time, this type of pain is considered to be chronic pain. Chronic pain is an entirely different animal than acute pain, and patients who suffer with it often look for options outside of traditional medication. Chiropractic care is an excellent choice in dealing with chronic back pain. Adjustments to the spine can promote healing in all areas of a person's body, as well as provide relief from the pain. Chiropractic care for medical conditions sometimes takes a bit longer to show results, so the patient must be committed to the treatment plan the chiropractor suggests in order to enjoy the maximum benefits of chiropractic. They Have Made Poor Lifestyle Choices Decisions we make can affect our health, either negatively or positively. Being overweight, avoiding an exercise routine, and smoking can result in health issues that cause back pain.
Chiropractic care can assist in lessening a patients back pain, which then hopefully leads to better lifestyle choices. Feeling better often prompts patients to embark on a fitness routine, eat healthier, and quit smoking. Exercise regimens that include strength training can positively impact a person's health in a number of ways, including back pain reduction. Millions of people struggle with back pain on a daily basis. Fortunately, there are multiple ways to treat both the symptoms and the underlying causes. Chiropractic care either by itself or in a combination with other treatments is one of the best choices available today.
