Before you rule out Parkinsons, Multiple Sclerosis, or any other obnoxious "symptom" the medical system treats with a prescription, begin with Chiropractic. Here is why..... To the left is a picture of the cervical spine and the nerves that form what is known as the brachial plexus. Those nerves travel down your arms and into your hands. Allowing your shoulders, arms and hands to function properly. When your cervical spine (neck) is compressed from chronic incorrect posture, ie. sitting at a desk all day or spending hours studying, or from injuries associated with sports or car accidents, it can cause a multitude of symptoms. Pain, tingling, weakness, numbness, achy/dull type pain, fatigue, decreased circulation to the brain and heart, decreased lung capacity...just to name a few. A decrease in overall function. One of these symptoms we are talking about here is tingling. Tingling in the hands can lead one in fear, to run their primary care physician, and rightly so. But, instead of running to the PCP, try running to another type of Doctor. A Doctor who will analyze the health and vitality of the very nerves that control your entire human system - the central nervous system. Tingling in the hands is a direct result of compression to your spine!! It is not a lack of muscle relaxers. You don't need more drugs and medication, you need an expert to place their hands on your neck and release the pressure. You can't exercise your pain away, or even massage the pain away, let alone even medicate the pain away. These are all temporary modalities. They might offer relief in the beginning and thank the heavens for that relief. I am not suggesting to stop these things, I just want to inform you that they will not CORRECT the underlying issue. Poor posture is an easy indication that your spine isn't functioning at it's optimum potential, and overtime, this can cause a variety of symptoms to pop up. Let's take a look at what the incorrect posture can do to the spine - and therefore your nerves. This x-ray is an inside look at the health of - or lack there of - your neck. The x-ray to the left is a normal healthy cervical curve. Indicating minimal to no pressure on the nerves. The x-ray to the right is a reversal of the cervical curve. The lack of cervical curve can put added pressure on your nerves, ligaments, joints, leaving your muscles in a screaming spasm! Do you ever hear someone complain about the knots in their back - well that is the muscles trying to bring the head back up into its normal position. Those knots are just a compensatory mechanism to the LACK OF THE CURVE in your SPINE! The criminal (your spine) remains silent, as the victim cries out (your muscles). We must put the criminal in rehab - Chiropractic rehab that is. So we can restore the curve and allow proper nerve and blood supply so the muscles can relax - and voila the tingling in your hands is gone! So, whats the solution??? Drugs???? Surgery?? Cortisone shots??? Tingling can cause a person to take some drastic measures, as you can imagine, it can really put a damper on your style. Sleep is comprised, work and social life. Don't you want to live a life without drugs, with out a rod in your spine, without the constant need for steroid shots? Don't you want your body to function at its optimum capacity, instead of running low on fuel?! Treatment of the Cervical spine can take time. Much like building a muscle at the gym that has been flaccid for years, you have to work at it if you want to reap the benefits. It took years to get you to this place, and it might take several months to get you back! Chiropractic care is not only safe but it highly effective, with NO SIDE AFFECTS! The Chiropractor is trained in this very treatment - restoration of the cervical curve. Every day someone walks into my office with tingling in their arms or feet. It is one of the most common symptoms, second to back pain. And, this symptom gets properly cared for and treated every single day. Plus, you might even like it, a lot.....

Unfortunately, medicine always had a missing link. People are dying and suffering regardless of modern technology. And, even though we have had many breakthroughs in modern medicine and have saved many lives because of it, we are still missing a vital importance in the meaning of health. What is means to be healthy. And how to restore the body of sickness. I applaud the Doctors who have took the initiative to think and perform outside the box. The box of modern medicine was, and still is too narrow. So narrow, no patient can fit! It is promising to be in a world that is opening their minds -literally- to a new Mind/Body medicine. The mind is so powerful, that one thought can manifest the future of your health or even disease. The mind can even, dare we say, heal a disease. At first, wrapping your mind around this can seem esoteric, and rightly so. The ability to understand how your thoughts become your action, takes patience. And patience isn’t a practice that many Americans can handle. People suffer from an injury that took years to develop, one small move - bending over - is all it takes to send their bodies over the edge into debilitating pain. To the point where their back says, “I can’t sustain this anymore! I have been supporting your unhealthy habits for years!” Yet, most of my patients ask, “How long will it take to heal, Doc.” Because, as you might very well know, they have a life to get back (pun intended) to and can not be dragged down by this! What do you mean, you don’t want to take the time to take care of the very thing that allows you to stand upright?!! Sure, one visit to my office will fix a lifetime of overuse and underpaid treatment to your back. Now is the time to give it a rest, to listen to your body, to understand its likes and dislikes. I have heard many people say, “you don’t know your back is there until you can feel it.” That is exactly why it is crying out. You don’t listen to your body. You ignore it, abuse it, and eventually it breaks up with you. Just like a spouse would if you gave him or her the same treatment. So, here you are, suffering and impatient. What are you going to do? Go to the PCP and get pain meds. That way you can play the round of golf without feeling any pain. You can live your life without ever knowing or feeling your back. Until the pain meds wear off and the injury is still there. The damage to your back is getting worse. And your body starts to compensate in other areas. Setting your body up for further injury down the road, but this time your hip, your ankle, your knee will cry out! Now you’re a mess! Are you going to take the time and spend the money for quality care? Or maybe, ignore the pain again, bring on the cortisone shots! That must be the answer, but hey, if that doesn’t work, there is always surgery! But, do you even have the time or patience for proper post surgical rehab when you didn’t take that time when the injury happened in the first place?! This, "hurry-up fix me doc," mentality is relayed throughout our society. We want our happy meals fast and cheap. Versus indulging in a home cooked, organic (free of toxins) meal. We want a pill to lose weight and a pill to fall asleep. A drink to forget our miseries and a cup of joe to keep us alive! Sadly this mentality is seen at our very own Doctors office. Aren’t Doctors supposed to be the epitome of health? Doctors inhale lunch full of toxins and take anti-acids to relieve themselves of the very own symptom their patients complain about. They spend 2 minutes to diagnose, write a prescription, and send them on their way. What if we took the time to “reset.” To indulge in the moments we are in. To really listen to our bodies and understand how injuries and disease manifest. It doesn’t take one moment for your body to create a disease, it is a lifetime of programed choices. Choices that we don’t take the time to understand the effects it might have on our system later on. And even when these choices lead up to an injury, we need to take that opportunity to make a change. Change our thoughts in order to heal. Thoughts about your health, thoughts about how you treat your body. Thoughts will eventually turn into your destiny. A destiny that you can consciously choose, because you will be listening. “Age” is just a series of injuries that have not yet been helped…. Medicine’s missing link, is within yourself. You have to own your body and be responsible for it. Take care of it, caress it, massage it… Much like Chris Farley does in the video clip below. If we take care of our bodies- it will thrive. If we don’t, we will destroy it! |
